How Does a Wireless Mouse Work?
Wireless mice are those that can be used without wires to connect them. While the first wireless mice were not that popular, most people nowadays use them with pleasure as they are more convenient and can give the user a greater degree of control over their computer mouse. In fact, many people prefer using wireless mice because they are not limited by the USB connection to the computer.
If you have used a mouse before, you might still be a little curious about how does a wireless mouse work. You might wonder how it can provide such great performance when its distance from the user is equivalent to the length of the USB cord that came with your computer. However, you do not have to worry about this any longer since more mice now come with built in rechargeable batteries.
These rechargeable mouse batteries are perfect for those who are always on the go and who would want to take their computing experience with them wherever they go. Most computers today come with built in batteries but using them continuously might prove to be quite harmful to the user’s health. Aside from being uncomfortable, these batteries drain very quickly. You would have to constantly change them and use extra mice. A wireless optical computer mouse however will never run out of battery power no matter how long you use it. It is made to work long hours without a single recharging.
A typical optical mouse has a three inch LED screen above a rubber ball inside. The LED screen shows a graphical representation of the mouse movement. As you move your mouse to click, the ball to bounce the mouse sensor light up. This activates the sensor and provides you with a digital readout of your mouse click. There are two buttons on the side of the mouse for you to control the direction of the light that wheel turns – left or right.
These wheels and light beams on the mouse look very similar to the design of a car wheel on a bicycle. Although the technology behind these mice is similar to that of a car wheel, it should not be confused with them. The similarity lies more in the function of the wheel that the light beam shines on. Most optical mice available today have a wheel with a light beam that can be manipulated using the mouse’s wheel.
The two main parts of an optical computer mouse are the sensor ball and the housing that house the sensor. The housing contains a rechargeable battery as well as a circuit board. The wheel and the light beam, although almost the same in design, function differently. The wheel turns with the click of the button while the light beam moves with every movement of the mouse.
Optical wheel devices feature a rubber ball with two parallel light beams. These balls have holes in the center of them. When the mouse moves, the holes line up with the light beams and reflect them back. This setup allows the ball mouse to move accurately over the surface it’s attached to.
So, how does a wireless mouse work? To answer that question, you need to understand how the technology behind it works. It has its own optical computer mouse system which consists of the two main components: the wheel and the housing. This mouse is made up of light bulbs, a sensitive rubber ball and a circuit board.
Most wireless mice use a lithium ion battery. Although they’re smaller than standard rechargeable batteries, they still pack quite a wallop. They also last longer than traditional rechargeable batteries. Some brands of wireless mice use rechargeable nickel cadmium or lithium ion batteries. These types of batteries are not very common in high end gaming mice.
The other component is the optical computer mouse itself. There are several companies that make optical mice including Dell, Steelseries and Logitech. Most people prefer to stick with mice made by Dell or Steelseries. Some people prefer Logitech because their mouse is more stylish and their brand is well respected in the market.
All in all, wireless mice are convenient to use and a lot of fun to play with. However, like any technology, they can be gamed. A good example of this is some mice act very fast when you’re moving around, but slow down when you stop moving. This makes it hard to judge distances and perform other tasks that require precise movements such as zooming in and out of photos. For this reason, it’s a good idea to invest in mice that have an optical computer mouse with an integrated touch-pad for easy turning and clicking.
